Background
World of Warcraft (WoW) is a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) developed by Blizzard Entertainment that currently has more than 11.5 million players around the world. In this game, one of the major components of playing is the amount of damage per second (DPS) that a player can do. However, there is no flat amount of damage that is done by any given ability in the game, because there are a large number of character stats, talents, and items that can affect how the damage is being calculated. To further complicate these stats, the game is also being constantly updated, where the coefficients related to the individual stats are often updated as well, changing how the calculations are all done. As such, players use tools such as excel spreadsheets and more advanced simulators in order to calculate their theoretical DPS given their individual character’s current (or possible) stats. However, as of now, most tools that are currently being used are either difficult to use or more often than not out of date.
