Toxic Catch-Pit Monitoring System Summary Team Gutsherrshaft is working with Pioneer Farms in Crivitz, WI to create an automated catch-pit monitoring system. When rain washes through hay feed, the run-off becomes extremely toxic from bacteria in the hay. To counteract this problem, the EPA is mandating a catch-pit system which will hold the toxic run-off for a specified amount of time. This allows the bacteria to dissipate so the water can be deemed safe to release back into the environment. The embedded system for this project will not only control the pump located in the pit, but log rain fall times, pump times, pump flow, and much more information that is required by the EPA.
